Salford Voices Banner Exhibition and Pop Up

Salford Voices is hitting the road

Throughout 2026 we will be touring our Salford Voices Banner Exhibition and Pop Up across all 8 neighbourhoods of Salford.

2026 marks 100 years since Salford was officially granted city status, and Art with Heart are on a mission to capture what it truly means to be from Salford.

Visit the Salford Voices Banner Exhibition which reimagines the coat of arms of the City of Salford, created by artists Chris Alton and Emily Simpson and residents at Broughton Community Centre.

Artist Ada Eravama has created an audio description of the banners to enhance the experience of blind and partially sighted visitors. Two small tactile banners give blind and partially sighted visitors the opportunity to explore elements of the exhibition through touch.

We’ve got loads for the whole family to enjoy at our pop-up celebration station where you can get crafty with Salford themed activities, make your own zine or sign the centenary birthday book.

Keep checking back as more dates are added to the banner tour. If you’re interested in hosting our exhibition and pop up contact our producer Rose via producer@artwithheart.org.uk.

We Invented the Weekend

  • Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th June 11am – 4pm
  • Location: Hot House
  • All audiences and ages welcome
  • No booking required – just turn up!

The weekend was invented in Greater Manchester in 1843 when Salford Lyceum Director and workers’ rights activist Robert Lowes (also Sir Ian McKellen’s Great Grandfather) campaigned to win workers the right to leisure time on Saturday afternoons. We Invented the Weekend honours this, in true style, in Salford, celebrating leisure time, free time, quality time and me-time.

A two-day FREE festival throws open MediaCity and Salford Quays’ spaces and places, to celebrate the joy of free time, taking in sports, music, comedy, theatre, dance, workshops, talks, food, charity, wellness, crafts and more.

How to find us

The Salford Voices Banner Exhibition and Pop Up will be located in Hot House- the big glass building on The Piazza!
